DESCRIPTION:

More than six years into the Obama Administration, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) continues to pursue an aggressive agenda implementing widespread change with some successes and some more questionable outcomes.  The agency successfully grew its formerly limited resources to achieve many of its objectives.  The clock is ticking, however, and the less than two years remaining in the Administration leaves little time for further significant accomplishment.  Understanding remaining priorities, as well as a myriad of regulatory changes that have been proposed or implemented to date will help every employer under the jurisdiction of the OFCCP determine whether its policies and processes are likely to invite agency attention.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

During this webinar, OFCCP:  The Obama Administration’s (Almost) Final Changes, Julia Baumhart will discuss OFCCP’s tenacity in shifting basic agency priorities through new and proposed regulations, and how these changes currently impact and may in the future further impact employer/federal contractor responsibilities. 

Participants also will learn:

  • The impact of regulatory changes for Veterans and Individuals With Disabilities;
  • Burdens created by OFCCP’s long-awaited new Audit Scheduling Letter;
  • Potential issues posed by OFCCP’s proposed “Equal Pay Report”;
  • Other proposed agenda items, including the prohibition on compensation secrecy and implementation of the gender identity/sexual orientation amendment.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

 

Julia Turner Baumhart is a Partner with Kienbaum Opperwall Hardy & Pelton, P.L.C.  Over the past 20-plus years, Ms. Baumhart has represented employers of all sizes, including many Fortune 500 employers, in disputes at the trial and appellate levels.  Ms. Baumhart’s client base has spanned the automotive, publishing, technology, hospitality, education, oil and pipeline, entertainment, media, finance, retail, insurance, and other industry sectors, and has encompassed all areas of employment law.  She has successfully defended employers in class actions and pattern-and-practice cases, as well as in single-plaintiff litigation.

 

Prior to joining Kienbaum Opperwall Hardy & Pelton at its inception in 1997, Ms. Baumhart was an employment law associate with the Detroit-based Dickinson Wright law firm; a judicial clerk to Judge James L. Ryan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit; and Employment Litigation Coordinator and Employee Relations Manager for EDS.

 

In 1972, Ms. Baumhart earned her Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin.  In 1993, she graduated magna cum laude from the Wayne State University Law School, where she received numerous awards for writing and scholarship. She is a member of the American Bar Association’s Labor & Employment and Litigation Sections, the State Bar of Michigan’s Labor & Employment Section, the Defense Research Institute, Michigan Defense Trial Counsel, Detroit SHRM’s Legal Affairs Committee, and the Oakland County Bar Association, where she serves as a case evaluator for employment cases.  She is also an Oakland County Bar Foundation Fellow.
