What is on the horizon in Congress and in state and federal courts including the US Supreme Court?  What are the emerging trends in the law? 

 

In this webinar, our speakers will discuss employment related bills introduced in Congress, cases that will be heard by the Supreme Court during the next term and other recent cases.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

 

Claudia D. Orr is an attorney with Plunkett Cooney in Detroit and she focuses her practice primarily in the area of labor and employment law. She represents employers/management only (and not employees/unions).  Her clients include Fortune 500 companies, local governments, numerous non-profit agencies, healthcare providers, restaurants, etc. As a counselor, Ms. Orr regularly advises clients on employment/labor matters, including discipline/discharge, complex ADA/Family and Medical Leave Act/STD-LTD/Worker’s Disability Compensation issues, wage and hour issues, and labor grievances/arbitration matters.  Ms. Orr regularly defends clients in litigation and arbitration matters and routinely represents clients in administrative proceedings before government agencies.

 

Ms. Orr has an ever-growing practice in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).  She is the current Chair of the Legal Affairs Committee of Detroit SHRM and a past Member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of Legal Affairs.  Her firm, Plunkett Cooney, is a long time Resource Partner of Detroit SHRM. 

 

Carol G. Schley is an attorney with Clark Hill PLC where she represents entities in a wide variety of employment-related disputes, including breach of contract, wrongful discharge, non-competition/confidentiality, discrimination and harassment. She also counsels entities on employment-related matters, prepares comprehensive employee handbooks and employment agreements and trains clients and their employees on employment issues in the workplace, including harassment-prevention training. In her insurance coverage practice, Ms. Schley provides advice and guidance to insurance companies on a broad range of complex insurance coverage questions. She also represents physicians, medical practices and health care providers and practices in commercial litigation, representing entities in a variety of business-related disputes. 

Ms. Schley is a contributing author to West Group’s Michigan Practice Alternative Dispute Resolution, 1998. She also serves as a member of the Detroit SHRM Legal Affairs Committee and has written frequent articles on various employment-related issues for Detroit SHRM.
