GLOBAL FORUM

“GDPR for the HR Practictioner"

Presented by: Sara H. Jodka, Of Counsel - Dickinson Wright; Allison Kopf, Sr. Business Process Consultant, Kelly Services; and Margo Fleming, Sr. Manager, Privacy, Compliance & ERM, Kelly Services

SESSION DESCRIPTION:

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was approved in April 2016 and enforcement of this law begins in less than 90 days - on May 25, 2018. The regulation protects the personal data of people in the EU and introduces privacy concepts that are completely new to many organizations in the U.S. Non-compliance can result in significant fines and penalties.

Since HR departments handle significant amounts of personal data, global and U.S. based HR leaders and teams need to know the key concepts embodied in the GDPR. In this session, our presenters will explain the basics of GDPR and give you practical steps you can take to help your organization by having your HR teams be fully up to speed with GDPR obligations.

The presenters have legal, compliance and process backgrounds and will provide the specific legal compliance process and the changes in application that HR teams will need to undertake to comply with basic GDPR rules.  Even if GDPR does not apply to you now, privacy regulations in parts of the world outside the EU are moving in the direction of the GDPR. HR leaders will want to understand the basic concepts of these regulations as they develop privacy strategies going forward.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this program, participants will understand the basic concepts of GDPR through a step by step framework, providing practical examples of processes and strategies that have been implemented to become compliant with GDPR regulations.
