Why Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Matter: It's not JUST an "HR Issue"
Kimara P. Mayberry is a Human Resources Manager and HR Business Partner for Starfish Family Services in Inkster, MI. She is also the Founder and principal Consultant for Platinum Consulting Group. Kimara is a 2007 graduate of Philander Smith College with a B.A. in Organizational Management, Cum Laude and Distinction in Field. She graduated in 2012 with an M.B.A in Ethics and Business Administration from Harding University, in Searcy, Arkansas. Kimara is currently attending Law School to pursue her Juris Doctor degree with a concentration on Employment and Labor Law.
Kimara has been nationally certified as a SHRM-CP (Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional) and PHR (Human Resources Professional). She has over 15 years of HR experience in a variety of industries including Healthcare, Manufacturing & Higher Education and currently Non-Profit.
Kimara is very active in the Human Resources Community. She currently serves as the Treasurer for the Detroit SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) Board of Directors as well as the Michigan State Council of SHRM Diversity Director. Kimara is also an active member of the Junior League of Birmingham, MI where she currently serves on the Communications Council and serves as a National Board Member for the Arkansas Black Hall Fame Foundation.
Previous Non-Profit board roles include: Serving twice as the College Relations Director for the ARSHRM (Arkansas Society for Human Resources Management State Council). CAHRA (Central Arkansas Human Resources Association) Board of Directors as the VP of Communications, VP of Monthly Programs and VP of Administration. She was selected as the CAHRA “Russell Gunter Member of the Year” in December of 2016. Kimara also served on the Little Rock Zoo Board of Governors, and the Friends of Pulaski County CASA Advisory Board among other non-profit fundraiser committees.
Kimara is an avid runner, who has completed a 50K Ultra Marathon (31 miles), 47 half marathons (13.1 miles), 4 marathons (26.2 miles) and numerous 5K and 10K races.
There has never been a more relevant time to help organizations succeed in their efforts to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion. This presentation will highlight information and tools to help leaders make the changes that will lead to more diverse, inclusive, and equitable organizations along with detailing the definitions of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
This presentation offers attendees a foundational understanding of the issues: baseline definitions, the case for why diversity, Equity and Inclusion matters, and an introduction to the resources available to them to assist with moving these initiatives forward in their organizations.
Attendees will become effective change agents utilizing 4 key arguments they can utilize to jump start effective and sustainable change. This dialogue, used effectively can and will prompt movement in their organizations towards more diversity, inclusivity, and more equity.
