DESCRIPTION:

During this webinar, participants be provided with an overview of the state of the Department of Labor Regulations for white collar exemptions.

As an added bonus, we will provide an overview of the new Michigan Supreme Court decision concerning the constitutionality of the new Paid Medical Leave Act (if a decision is issued prior to the webinar).

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of the webinar, HR professionals with gain understanding of:

  • New minimum salary thresholds for white collar exemptions;
  • New minimum thresholds for highly compensated employees;
  • New rules for added compensation for exempt employees; and
  • Other special features of the new FLSA regulations

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Claudia Orr is an attorney with Plunkett Cooney in Detroit and she focuses her practice primarily in the area of labor and employment law. She represents employers/management only (and not employees/unions).  Her clients include Fortune 500 companies, local governments, numerous non-profit agencies, restaurants, etc. As a counselor, Ms. Orr regularly advises clients on employment/labor matters, including discipline/discharge, complex ADA/Family and Medical Leave Act/STD-LTD/Worker’s Disability Compensation issues, and wage and hour issues. Ms. Orr regularly defends clients in litigation and arbitration matters and routinely represents clients in administrative proceedings before government agencies. In addition, Ms. Orr has an ever-growing practice serving as an arbitrator and mediator.

She is the current Chair of the Legal Affairs Committee of Detroit SHRM and a past Member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of Legal Affairs. Plunkett Cooney is a long time Resource Partner of Detroit SHRM.

Laura Dinon is an attorney with Plunkett Cooney’s Petoskey office who has over 30 years of experience exclusively advising employers of all sizes in the public and private sectors in northern Michigan. Laura’s expertise includes traditional labor and all types of employment law matters, including hiring, firing, discipline, leave, compliance and all other employment related issues up to and including litigation. Laura also assists with contract and policy drafting and implementation, training, and interpretation of those policies and contracts. She’s a past president and currently the secretary of the board of directors of the Northern Michigan Society of Human Resource Directors.
