"Beyond Basic Compensation: HR's Fiduciary Responsibilities"

PRESENTATION SUMMARY:

With dramatic increases in liability, HR professionals involved with managing retirement plans need to stay apprised of their role as fiduciary plan sponsors. A part of that role is engaging employees in planning for the financial future and offering impactful options to employees at all levels. This session will provide important best practices for HR and how to be a fiduciary leader for employees throughout the organization.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Participants in this HR Learn program will learn how to:

  • Know what makes someone a fiduciary under the current DOL rules;
  • Take specific actions to stay above the "fiduciary floor";
  • Overcome employee inertia using impactful approaches to financial wellness;
  • Identify important issues to be discussing with the Retirement Plan Committee;
  • Take a leadership role in enhancing the retirement plan for their workforce;
  • Understand and answer the following questions:
    • Are you compensating your highest earners in the most tax efficient manner?
    • Does your organization practice benefit parity or benefit equality?
    • Do your highest earners understand the financial benefits of staying with your organization?

Cancellations must be received in writing to info@detroitshrm.org by January 10, 2020. Refunds cannot be issued for cancellations received after this date; however, substitutions for another person to attend in your place are gladly accepted (please note that members substituting a non-member may result in a higher registration fee).

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Errol Hau joined CAPTRUST in 2013 as Director, Product Specialist and now serves as Senior Vice President, Financial Advisor. He is responsible for providing retirement plan advisory services to corporate fiduciaries. Prior to joining CAPTRUST, Errol served as the Vice President of Strategic Growth and Development at Freedom One Financial Group and has worked in the industry since 1993.

Errol received a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a Master of Business Administration degree in finance from the Opus School of Business at the University of St. Thomas. He holds the designations of Certified Treasury Professional (CTP/CCM).

  

Michael Craig is an Advisor with Catalyst Solutions Group where he joined the firm in 2018. Michael has served in a variety of industries, including managing skydiving centers, corporate fundraising, nonprofit development, and TV advertising production.  Each gives him a unique ability to serve business owners and individuals in a wide range of industries and backgrounds. His ultimate focus in every role has always been to build meaningful relationships with his client which culminates in exceptional client care. Michael’s diverse background provides him with a distinct aptitude for finding creative and effective solutions for his client’s needs.

Michael grew up in Harbor Springs, MI sailing, skiing, and enjoying all aspects of outdoor life. He graduated from Denison University with a B.S. in Political Science. Today, Michael lives in Grosse Pointe, MI with his wife, Alison and Hank, his black lab. He serves on the Board of Directors for The Children’s Center and works closely with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, mentoring children and families with Type 1 Diabetes. He spends his free time pursuing his passions for fitness, philanthropy, literature, competitive sailing, and all things “Northern Michigan”.
