Pay It Forward - Sponsor

The Pay It Forward program is designed to support HR professionals whose jobs have been impacted by the economy. With this program, members in transition can join Detroit at 50% of the new member rate which is $100, so the cost of membership becomes $50. We are reaching out to our current membership base to assist individuals who would like to join Detroit SHRM by giving a gift of $50 toward membership dues. If you are in the fortunate position to be able to “pay it forward” and help another HR professional join Detroit SHRM, you can become involved in this program. For new members who join Detroit SHRM by accepting sponsorship, we are asking them to commit to “pay it forward” and sponsor another person in transition once they have re-entered the workforce. What is the Pay It Forward Program?

Existing members can assist individuals who would like to join Detroit SHRM by giving a gift of $50 toward membership dues.

I am in job transition. How do I participate?
Contact the Detroit SHRM Administrator at info@detroitshrm.org call our office at 248-478-6498. For more details on the program, visit our website at www.detroitshrm.org. For members who participate in this program by accepting sponsorship, we ask that you “pay it forward” and sponsor another person in transition once you re-enter the workforce.

How do I become a Sponsor?
Become a sponsor today by completing the online form. For questions contacte our Administrator at info@detroitshrm.org or call our office at 248-478-6498.

How much can I contribute as a Sponsor?
The minimum gift is $50, half of the lowest new member rate. The option is available for current members (sponsors) wanting to gift more than $50.

Can Sponsors claim gifts as a tax deduction?
Detroit SHRM is a nonprofit organization as designated under IRS section 501(c) (6), therefore your gift may be deductible as a charitable contribution. Please consult your tax advisor for details.

If I am interested in sponsoring a member in transition through this program, can I request that my gift be allocated to a specific person?
No. All gifts will be allocated to one account and distributed on a first come first serve basis.

Once I re-enter the workforce, what will the cost of membership be?
Once you re-enter the workforce, your new annual membership dues will increase to the regular membership rate. Membership dues expire one year from your enrollment date.

Who do I contact once I reenter the workforce?
Go to www.detroitshrm.org and log onto the Members Only page then click, Update Profile. Update your profile with your new information.

Do I have to be a member of Detroit SHRM to be a Sponsor?
Yes, you are only able to participate in this program as a sponsor if you are a current member.

I am a student member. Are student members eligible to participate?
No, as the student member rate is already discounted or free if you are a member of SHRM.
